Signs of Gum Disease

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF GUM DISEASE?

What is amazing to note is that the majority of population suffers from gum disease, without them knowing!

One of the signs of gum disease is bleeding gums. So when you are eating, you may find that your gums bleed.

Or when you brush your teeth, you might note that your saliva when you spit.

When you see these signs, it is essential that you go and visit your dentist or your hygienist so that the disease cannot become worse.

So here we have a healthy situation where the gums are nice and pink and healthy. They should not be looking red or inflamed or puffy.

But when you have gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums, you then get bleeding of the gums and even eating an apple will cause the gums to bleed.

It is relatively easy to fix this problem by cleaning effectively by using a tooth-brush and using interdental brushes on a daily basis.

HOW DOES GUM DISEASE PROGRESS?

If a gum disease isn’t treated early, then it can advance to the next stage which is when the bone is affected around the tooth. The bacteria around the tooth will make the bone disappear.

So as you can see in these images, the bone is healthy on the one side, and as the disease then progresses, you get a bone loss, and ultimately, the body is going to extract the tooth. And we want to stop that from progressing.

So by good effective cleaning and seeing your dentist or hygienist on a regular basis, you’ll be able to prevent gum disease and periodontal disease.
